Small Hare Painting

A small hare painting, which seemed to generate more interest than all my other paintings so far for some reason. I think it was the painterly background.

Lemons and Cup

My latest painting, done on 'Gessobord' from the USA. The board is a thin hard MDF called masonite, coated with a gesso which is not as absorbant as normal acrylic gesso. It's a great surface for fine detail painting.

Glazed jug and lemons

So now I've done a few experiments in various subjects, I'm coming back to still life and will concentrate on that from now on, apart from more portraiture.
This is a fairly quick Alla Prima study. It was difficult to photograph as one part was dark and the other light. The painting does look slightly better in real life.

Sheep

My latest subject is sheep. We were walking by the canal and this one took an interest in me, so I took a photo and painted it. It is in oils but I think it has a watercolour feel about it.

Glass Jug And Figs

My latest still life is 'glass jug and figs'. I tried a different background technique this time with a scumbled grey over brown. I couldn't do a dark background for this subject as the colour of the jug wouldn't have been seen.
This time I have tried painting on a gesso panel, which is an Italian laminated wood panel primed with totally smooth gesso, and so they are excellent for detailed painting.
